One February Morning - John Gachich
John Gachich spent the first twelve years of his life in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (you might know it as Serbia today). He immigrated to the United States in 1959, and due to his inherent brilliance, managed to squeak by in high school without repeating a single grade. Following that stellar performance, he was invited to join the U. S. Army, which he did readily, lest he be thrown in jail for refusing the draft. Following a fourteen-month stint in Vietnam, nine of which were spent as a helicopter gunner, he came home and uncharacteristically excelled in college, earning a degree in Architecture. He practiced architecture for over forty-five years and even received some accolades in his chosen profession along the way. He never spoke much about his time in Vietnam but one day realized that his story needed to be told and he decided to write a book, "One February Morning", detailing his experience there.
