Step By Step - Chris Long

Born and bred in Somerset, I’ve had more jobs than I can count — and a few even stranger than they sound. The oddest by far? I once worked as a Milk Sniffer. (Yes, that’s a real job!) From there, I became a milk roundsman… until I was sacked for selling too much milk. Apparently, I made the other milkmen look bad. After that, I swapped milk floats for buses and coaches, before eventually finding my way into local government. My last role was as a Team Leader for the DWP, managing staff spread from Bristol, Banbury, Gloucester, Oxford, Milton Keynes and High Wycombe. Let’s just say I learned a lot about people — plenty of material for a writer! Now happily retired, I live in Weston-super-Mare with my lovely wife, Heather, and our two cats, who have made it abundantly clear that they own the place. These days, I spend my time writing, cooking (with mixed results), and exploring National Trust and English Heritage sites. Heather and I love a good road trip around Britain — we’ve ticked off everywhere from Cornwall and Kent to Yorkshire, Scotland, and Wales. Life’s never dull — and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Proof that retirement can be dangerous — I started writing books! Motto: Retired from work, but definitely not from life.
