The Seven Year (Sw)itch - James E. Crawley

James began his career as a Submariner in the Royal Navy, arguably the best free management training school around. After a few years underwater, he resurfaced, tracked down his wife, and stumbled into executive search. Starting as a researcher, he worked his way up, eventually leading start-ups, turnarounds, and a PLC, with a few life plot twists along the way (including a divorce and a software upgrade to Wife v2.0, complete with two delightful pre-installed apps). Over three decades, James evolved from headhunter to business consultant, focusing on talent and leadership. He founded JCM Advisors, helping growing businesses and entrepreneurs sidestep common pitfalls, many of which he’s experienced himself. He now juggles roles as CEO of two companies, advisor to several others, and regular conference speaker. When not working, James volunteers with charities and hides out in East Sussex. Disclaimer: James holds no formal qualifications in psychology or mentoring, just a wealth of experience packed into one very full life.

The Seven-Year (Sw)itch is a smart, plainspoken guide for anyone who feels stuck, restless, or quietly questioning whether their current life still fits. Drawing from behavioural research, personal experience, and two decades of coaching leaders and entrepreneurs, James reframes the so-called “seven-year itch” not as a cliché or crisis, but as a predictable human rhythm, a natural signal that it’s time to evolve.
