Tony and the Scary Thing - Trayonna D. Barnes

Hello! My name is Trayonna D. Barnes, MSW, LSW. I am a Mental Health Therapist and Children’s Book Author based in Cincinnati, OH. I attended Northern Kentucky University, where I earned an integrated degree in Psychology, Social Work, and Entrepreneurial Studies. Two years later, I graduated from Howard University with a Master's degree in Social Work. I have been passionate about Mental Health since I was a little girl and I learned that my Mom and other family members struggled with mental illness. I witnessed many of my family members being mistreated and judged because others didn’t understand mental health. This made me very sad and made me want to teach everyone I could about mental health and how we can support each other when we experience hard things. While I was in school I learned that we all have mental health connected to our brains the same way that we have physical health linked to our bodies. Sometimes we need help with our mental health after experiencing hard things and that’s ok! The mission of my book is to help families talk about mental health and give tips on how they can support children when they’ve gone through something scary, hard, or upsetting. Remember, the first step in taking care of your mental health is using your voice to tell a grown-up when something scary or upsetting has happened. I hope this book is helpful for you!
