Neem Tree Press is a fine example of determination and grit in today's world of independent publishing. Not only have they created a sturdy brand, but have also picked up high recognition in the process. They operate in the British and the global market, and their mission to cultivate engaging and diverse writing continues to grow. Their titles have been showcased at BBC Radio, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and New York City’s Smithsonian Design Museum.

Neem Tree Press boldly declare their intention to live up to their namesake, as the ‘neem’ species of tree is tough, drought-resistant, and capable of thriving in poor soil conditions. It is even declared by the UN as a ‘tree for the 21st century.’ It can be argued that there is no better analogy for the world of independent publishing today, as this particular press carve their niche in an otherwise highly unstable landscape.

Undeterred, their desire to represent internationally has awarded them the English PEN grant, a prestigious award which supports authors in acquiring written work from other languages. A team of dedicated in-house translators ensure that readers native to the English language have the benefit of reading titles which would have otherwise been unreachable to most audiences in the UK. Neem Tree Press therefore provides an essential service to passionate book lovers.

Current acquisitions under the Neem Tree Press banner include Palestenian writer, Ahlam Bsharat, whose complex and fascinating coming-of-age story, Trees for the Absentees, is her second novel to be represented and furthermore translated under this press. Other authors include Anne Richter, writer of the generation-spanning novel set in 20th century East Germany, Distant Signs, and Keith Carter, whose analysis of the world of finance and its effect on the environment, The Umbrella Men, received high acclaim from NB Magazine. Those interested in fashion will not want to miss American journalist Hafsa Lodi’s analysis, Modesty: A Fashion Paradox, which is the first non-fiction title to be published by Neem Tree Press.

Neem Tree Press also represents The Book Network’s very own Phil Bowne, who’s debut novel Cows Can’t Jump, is an entertaining and moving story, which mixes coming-of-age drama with travel, to create a memorable and often witty adventure for readers.

Neem Tree Press also showcases a middle-grade and young adult’s section, under the alternate banner of Seven Seas Press, which prides itself on weaving tales through the eyes of diverse perspectives and cultures. As well as the aforementioned books by Ahlam Bsharat, it also includes Scott Lauder and David Ross’ thrilling fantasy series, The Three Hares, and Kenneth Steven’s Silverwing, which, with the help of Ishy Walter’s illustrations, brings to life an emotional story of loss, perseverance, and healing.

The Neem Tree Press catalogue continues to expand, and they recently signed historical author, Susan C Wilson, who’s Greek mythology-embedded debut novel Clytemnestra will be due for release in 2022. There is little doubt that new signings will continue in future seasons. With new acquisitions such as Wilson, and with an already formidable array of titles available, the future of the Neem Tree Press brand appears not only secure, but a growing source of knowledge and inspiration for audiences, wherever they may be.
