Tramp Press are an independent publisher who applies true passion and charisma to the works they represent. Since their formation in 2014, they have undergone a quest to nurture and publish exceptional talent in the literary world. Founded by Lisa Coen and Sarah Davis-Goff, with the addition in 2019 of UK Publishing Director, Laura Waddel, they advocate excellent writing and storytelling in numerous forms. While their growing itinerary of authors and novels may seem small in comparison to other publishers, independent or otherwise, it’s Tramp Press’ drive to bring extra care and focus on each new project they undertake. Quality over quantity is therefore assured with every title.

Based in Ireland and Scotland, they are funded by the Arts Council of Ireland for Literature, and have a formidable reach overseas. Tramp Press distribute their titles to Ireland, UK and the US and Canada, allowing an extremely broad scope of readers to sample and appreciate the work they represent.

Tramp Press pride themselves on true feminist values. It is their ongoing mission to actively challenge sexism in the publishing industry, with guidelines in place to ensure that patriarchy has no room for growth within their ranks. Their upstanding take on this crucial detail to the Tramp Press submission process earned them an article in The Guardian, specifically about this topic.

At present, Tramp Press contains an acquisition of several highly reputable authors, including award winning writer of Spill Simmer Falter Wither, Sara Baume, Goldsmiths prize winner, Mike McCormack, and British writer for The Guardian, New Statesman and The National, Joanna Walsh. Other titles of high praise include Doireann Ní Ghríofa’s century-spanning tale, A Ghost in the Throat, and Sophie White’s candid testimony of mental illness, addiction, and grief, Corpsing. Tramp Press also represents some of the works of the late 19th Century Victorian novelist, Charlotte Riddel, as part of their Recovered Voices series.

In present day, another wholly modern and extremely notable acquisition is that of Egyptian-American author, femminsit, and activist, Mona Eltahawy, whose latest book, The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls is a direct middle-finger to patriarchy in all forms. It is a perfect fit for the ethics and mission statement of Tramp Press, and with a swathe of already staggering reviews under its wing, is set to be one of the most important titles of 2021.

Since its inception, Tramp Press has earned itself a series of national and international awards, including the Booker Prize, the Guardian First Book Award, and the International DUBLIN Literary Award, and several more. With more titles in the pipeline, their expanse of achievements is set to continue, both within Ireland and the rest of the UK.

It’s no surprise that Tramp Press has become a highly decorated source of content and wisdom, and the selection of upcoming titles in 2021 prove that its momentum is only gathering. As well as the aforementioned The Necessary Sins for Women and Girls book, as well as Niall Bourke’s contemporary novel, Line, this coming Autumn will also see the release of Irish classic fantasy story compilation, It Rose Up, which will act as an honorary counterpart of the A Brilliant Void science fiction compilation which was published in 2018… thus adding to the Recovered Voices titles.
