The Two Tears - Francis John Dunne
I am second generation Irish, my parents emigrated to England in the early 1960S and made their roots in a small Derbyshire town. We were a typical working class family. Dad worked as a labourer, liked his pints and cigarettes. Mum somehow managed to raise four sons whilst working two part time jobs. As a child, I suffered from chronic asthma, as a result I missed a lot of school. Always trying to catch up on lessons missed. Reading books gave me both hope and an education. Leaving school with two CSE's, my future path was not paved with gold. Fast forwards 50 years. Married to Jackie, my childhood sweetheart, two grown up daughters, travelled extensively and a Director of a successful family Business I have always wanted to write, to tell stories, I know now that its in my DNA, my Dad Joe was a Seanchaí, a storyteller. In Irish history Seanchai have an important role to play, they are the custodians of myths, legends and history. Mixing half truths with the truth, sharing secrets and memories. I am a Seanchai. The stories I will tell you, come to me in my dreams and nightmares. Filling my mind with voices and images long lost in the mists of time. They speak to the Seanchai, so we can keep them alive. Its not a vocation, its a sacred duty. Enjoy the journey I am about to share with you. Frank.
